Out of control

I recently bought a Lowrance 3300 gps plotter (which is excellent) as my old Shipmate 5500 doesn't seem able to get a fix anymore.
When I connected it to my Cetrek 737 pilot and pressed "Navigate" the boat weaved from side to side as though I was drunk!
When I checked the manuals, it seems that the Lowrance outputs NMEA version 2, and the pilot accepts version 1.5.
I therefore have 2 problems, does anyone have any idea why the Shipmate won't "lock on", and how or if I can get my new plotter and my old pilot to "talk" to each other!

I have a Lowrance 3300c and I'm sure it outputs NMEA 0183 not 2... the NMEA 2000 is their market name... make sure the devices are all talking the same language and perhaps baud rates are the same as I know you can change the baud rate on the Lowrance.

I don't use auto pilots so the above may be of no use whatsoever, but as no one else seems to have responded (well publicly anyway) I thought I'd stick my tuppence worth in!

Regards

Howard

Thanks for replying Howard, but I forgot to mention that the plotter outputs NMEA 0183 version 2 and the pilot receives NMEA 0183 version 1.5. I have checked the baud rates and they match.
Any electronics experts out there?
