Well, burning a wee bit of fuel anyway.

Managed to squeeze out of the berth with a massive round fender on the stern to push against as the bow came round with a foot to spare, may have to try a spring as well in the future.

Went around to the fishermans pontoon in Emsworth to practice the coming in alongside, angles, springs, fenders etc but to no avail two raggies taking up the whole pontoon where they could have left an adequate gap, oh and there was no moving them, reading the paper, looked up, glared so we toddled back down to try the lasso of an innocent mooring buoy in the harbour.

lasso a total success had a spot of lunch then off to try the anchoring thing, pressed the remote lewmar down button and let out chain from the helm, what a joy, other than the counter LCD said error. Let the anchor bite then let out a bit more, launched the dinghy off the davits and the kids and SHMBO with dogs went off to the beach. Hoisted the dinghy back up on their return friends turned up and rafted off us in their merry fisher, then up anchor on the remote waiting for the chain to pile up and jam but it didn't!! Had a winch handle ready just in case!

Then around to Sparkes, onto the fuel pontoon and stuck fuel in. Moored up on the wall pontoon and now thinking about how to get out!!

Played with some of the garmin goodies pushed information, tides, and pressed bembridge, moved the cursor along to the rising bit of the curve and it says there is 1.7m at 13:46.

pressed the other screen at the yellow buoy outside bembridge and created a waypoint back to "home" and "navigate to", chose bembrige and it said engage autopilot Yes or No, decided on no because the bottom of Hayling is in the way for now.

changed the chart to mariners eye and a pink line appeared on the water pointing to bembridge. So easy to use this stuff and dare I say again I prefer it to raymarine!

One fixed VHF decided to lose it time and position yesterday, discovered this morning it gets it's nmea from a different chart plotter network on a different GPS so we have dual systems.

Spoke to a lovely man in Guernsy for the part one registration and he said "Alice Too" is ok so sent off the blue book, paperwork etc.. and ordered the sticker on line which I can put on, (probably crooked) the stern as soon as it turns up.

Saw the chi harbour master who said stick the green harbour licence on her from the last boat and try to remember to tell the office!

thanks for all the advice and comments

off into the engine room to give the green beasties a hug so TTFN

Would that be Josh at the Guernsey registry by chance? If so - he was super-helpful with my Guernsey registration as well - top chap.

Nelson 42 Mk 1

Hi Ian..... am I remembering right from an earlier post.... is it a Nelson you have got? If so, an older Halmatic or a more modern Dale (maybe) ?

She was built by the Guernsey Boat Building Co and in Havant and Guernsey so a "proper" Nelson?

Yes it was Josh I spoke to, he was as you say a top chap, he instantly knew the boat, emailed me the forms and what I had to send back straight away.

Very insistant the name was in 4" high letters

I've been enjoying your posts Ian.

It's lovely to see how you and the family are enjoying your new purchase, great to read about your enthusiasm.

And what with you being at ex Raggie and actually speaking to us stink pots.....

.....well

....It brings a tear to my eye ;) :D :D

Thanks for the interesting read Ian and glad you are enjoying the new toy. Very please to hear that you like the Garmin so much, as I'm about to do the Raymarine-Garmin switch too. You're making me very relieved that the Garmin stuff will be ok (indeed, more than ok)

With reference to your mooring comments, does Alice Too have a b/thruster?

You'll love the Garmin kit, honestly, especially the navigate to in mariner's 3d - so easy to use the raymarine I had always looked a bit gimmiky.

She has no bow thruster but no probs yet with twin screws, still learning!!

I think the real proof of the pudding is going to be them Wightlink Ferries ... will they let you past or will you have to go the wrong way round?

;)

Oi

Didn't you know the ferry drivers have no idea i've swapped over, not a word now, just pity the new owner of Sunbeat who will no doubt get the rivet view of the ferry sides!!

I give it 2 months before they 'realise' ... and don't forget - you've less oportunity to be Right of Way vessel now .... although I guess it's a little easier to miss them ...

Mind u - with a Nelson - which will come of worse? :D

Hi Ian.
Just wondered. Mine is a 1971 40ft Nelson hull by Halmatic fitted out by Mitchell. Use her for instruction. Brilliant semi displacement sea keeping , but a bit narrow gutted & rolls like a pig beam on if less than 12 knots.

Oh Yes

Yes she rolls but I don't think it's too bad, runs away with herself if I'm too heavy handed with the trim tabs and starts to wander off!! More practice required.

Back on the Emsworth pontoon, dinghy'd into Emsworth dinner with friends then mud plugged a few yards to the channel and back to the boat.
