our private mooring wood would need replacing
the size is 190 cm by 1900 cm

Any recommendations where to get new wood and what type is best?

Can we go for plastic?

Thanks in advance

Tom

I'm no expert but I remember years ago rebuilding club landing stages using iroko which looked good and seemed to last well.

What is the purpose of the wood ? Walking surface of the pontoon, or as small piling/supports ?

If underwater then elm is the best, but difficult to find.

Lophira alata (commonly known as azobé, ekki or the red ironwood tree).

A good combination of cost and durability for wood piling and all near water construction.

Our local nature reserve has just had the boardwalk replaced with plastic boards made out of recycled plastic bags. It has a good non slip finish and looks the business. They reckon it will last 60+ years but I don't know how it compares with the cost of wood

Working for a Civils Contractor, when we install piers and jetties it is pretty much always Greenheart in the water and Greehheart or Ekki out of it.
When we replace such structures the timber often ends up with a business that reclaims / recycles timber so it is worth looking up that kind of company.
