;) Yes we finally did it, we bought our first yacht today :D

It's a Westerly GK24 with a fractional rig, inboard Yanmar engine, with a clean bill of health from the surveyor. There are a few small jobs to complete to make it just right, but nothing serious and only cosmetics. We can't wait to get started! Won't be putting it into the water until March 2014, so plenty of time to complete the jobs. Get ready for my questions!

i had one of those with a yanmar too. great boat / sails well and we took it through the french canals and spent a tear touring the med. The only thing was its a bit tender though.

Congratulations on the new boat. I hope you enjoy it. What a pain to have to wait till March. You probablt won't know what you need until you do some sailing.
If as boiow suggests it is a bit tender then make sure you have reefing for the main well sorted out and insure furler if you have one works well. A tender boat can be a joy if you can set it up with the correct sail area easily. Pretty horrible if you are caught with too much sail. good luck olewill

The Westerly Owners Association is very cheap to belong and well worth it. Great source of technical info & experiences about all the Westerly range. Plus a the chandlers who specialise in spares.
Enjoy

Well done, enjoy. I had a GK24 as my first boat and loved it, I'm sure you will too.

Another vote for the GK24 as a great first boat (or last boat...). I used to sail on a masthead/inboard variant. It handled like a big dinghy, no chance of getting complacent and you feel every bump, so you know where your limits are! A masthead spinnaker can be used to steer the boat... really annoys the owner at the helm!

Many thanks guys, great to hear that it's a popular boat. I think we'll be sailing her reefed at first to get used to her, she has a big sail area alright. Should be a lot of fun! We are based in Crosshaven, so will be sailing around Cork harbor for a while to get to grips with her. Plenty of space and places to explore there.

Congratulations breizh we have just had our first season for about 30 years so this is not our first boat (although it is for my wife ) but we purchased a Pegasus 800 last spring /summer and have had a fantastic time this summer sailing on the east coast uk out of Shotley.
We wish you the same for Next year.
