Last Friday morning we rounded Bembridge Ledge at 06:10 and stopped the engine at 06:30. Charged across with a F5 WNW all the way and rounded the South Cardinal Bouy off Tatihou Island at 16:40. Average speed 6.4 knots; not bad for an old 29 ft bilge keeler I thought.
It was all a bit much for SWMBO who took to her bunk with Mal de Mer for about 4 hours leaving me with a tillerpilot that wasn't really up to the conditions. But what a cracking sail! We were in St. Vaast in plenty of time for a shower and meal ashore. Late June but St. Vaast had a strange quiet out-of season feel to it; very pleasant for those of us who were there.
Motor-sailed back yesterday in light W to NW winds arriving at Wicormarine about 21:30 with fresh mackerel for dinner and a night on the mooring.

Did the same trip from Poole on Friday, great sail, had staedy 8.5 (log speed) knots off Barfleur topping out at 11.9 with just main and genoa, great fun. St Vaast was nice and quiet.

Nice one! Great when it all comes together like that, you just wish the destination was a bit further away!
