Hi all,

A chum is having his wedding reception on the edge of Oulton Broad, and for all the obvious reasons, I'd like to take the boat there for the wedding weekend.

Now, will my draft (1.9m) or air draft (about 18m) prevent my getting into the Broad? If I can get in, what tips do you have? And where are the best places to moor?

Thanks all!

I'm just a little down the coast, so I'd be entering at Lowestoft...

How do you know it's not a mobo with a really big radio? /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

Mutford Lock/Br 01502531778/523003 or VHF CH73/9/14 who will advise visitors drawing >1.7m

I went across the Broad last Friday. Offset 1.2m. echo sounder showed 0.9 depth.
Alternatively take a guest mooring at Haven Marina (walking distance to Oulton Broad) where you will find several forum members /forums/images/graemlins/wink.gif
or RNSYC (taxi ride)

There's a huge echo on this Forum, Dougie just said wot i
wuz.The mooring at Oulton Broad yacht station is good,
At 1-9metre draft you will just be afloat, but don't try and
cross the broad,as Dougie said barely a metre under you
if you go on to the Broad to moor its best to book a berth
I'm sorry i did not realise you are a radio ham in a mobo
with an 18 metre radio tower bolted on the coach roof.
As Doug said Haven Marina is a good mooring, and you
will be made most welcome, 'specially if the Bridesmaids
are of "Age". When is the big event? Cheers Tony

Aaah, I understood that Dougie meant that there was 1.2 + 0.9 = 2.1 metres of water... Have I got it wrong? I don't want to drive the lovely boat into the mud more than I have to (I know its a constant risk to us east-coasters).

I think the bridesmaids might be smashers, but 'll know more when I see the groom tomorrow...

CQ, CQ, CQ...

OK, Haven it is... We can always zip round to the reception in the tender. Probably a Friday night run up there, then the 'do' on Saturday, followed by a chill-out on Sunday and then back home... Might be nice to meet up for a beer - PM me if you'll be around on May 19th/20th/21st...

You would also be welcome at the Lowestoft cruising club marina. We have 75 berths and are only 100 yds away from the Wherry Hotel. The Haven marina is quite a bit further away.

We are also half the price of the haven marina!

Haven Marina is opposite the Cruising club. my berth looks directly at your moorings.
It may be little bit further to walk to the Wherry...if that is the venue.
but then i am not one of the "yachties" that your web site refers to and am most likely dishonest. and are you sure you can charge a flat fee for power? isnt it regulated now and you cant charge more than the "going rate"
Half the price of Haven...if any berths are available. or maybe you can cruise up and down looking for little green triangles.
This is the first instance i have seen of a them and us on the East Coast and hope you are not typical of the other boaters in the area.

"Meet some nice forumites . . ." Do you fly a flag or summat? Don't tell me this is another exclusive club where I'm always kept in the dark by the control freaks (or Committee as they're usually called . . .)
