Looks like typical of the larger vessel assuming the stand on vessel will keep clear ... still - could've been worse - could've been T-boned!!

Eh? The smaller one (black) has come in from the right ..... and would appear to have been stand on vessel ... perhaps the other boat took that too literally and decided to stand on the stand on vessel .... /forums/images/graemlins/tongue.gif

Sorry, missunderstanding, you said stand on.

But why would the stand on vessel keep clear? Unless there was a last minute alteration of course from the 6m then it's hard to imagine a scenario where the 8m is not at fault.....

Something I have just noticed though, I can't see a pole in any of the photos. Which is odd. Possibly they were gybing or dropping, but then where's the bowman?

Well speaking as a bowman, I suspect he might be treading water and rehursing anglo saxon phrases.

I think the 6's pole has been caught by the forestay of the 8. The pole is now bearing against the shrouds and starting the process of dismasting, which is completed as the 8's bow snags the 6's runner.

I agree that's logical bit I don't buy it, you can see the whole forestay of the 8 in the first pic, and there's no pole on it.

Hmmn. Maybe the heel fitting has failed and it is now on the windward side of the 8's genoa. After all, you can't see the guy either.

Yes agreed they dont seem to be aware of the gravity of the situation..lols
As crew it is hard to anticipate and decide how to prepare for impact until, that is, you know where and what type of impact there is going to be.
I was 'crew' taking part in a race last week, we were hit by another; Initially it had the makings of a T Bone impact which, luckily, at the last moment became a side impact and we (the yacht) received minimal (define minimal £ damage on a yacht...lols) damage, phew!
All safe and well. /forums/images/graemlins/smirk.gif

Are those running backstays on the smaller boat, or has the boat already had a problem with its stays breaking?
