Anybody know of any other uk sailing forums? The PBO/YM ones are heavily controlled, and as a result lack interest and vitality.

Or is it just that we yotties are mainly middle aged middle class conservatives - with a small c. ?

If I want bar-room humour or I want to be provacative about politics, I go to the bar of my sailing club - if I want advice on a subject that my friends can't help me with - or want to learn from others' experience of sailing, I come here.

I've got no complaints.

How much more open do you want?
At the moment on one of the others "the managment" are being slagged for PBO being crap. There is no restriction, as far as I can see, just the occaisional post by the man in red to try to find out what the problem is.
Dont know about the stink boat forum cos I have never bothered to read it, but the others can be quite interesting and at times informative.
Its really down to what do you want to see, decide, and then put a post on whichever forum takes your fancy.

Hear! Hear! And take with you all the other boring old members of the 'Council of the Elders' who know everything about everything.

Well said Kim. Well said Bryan.

Re: \'heavily controlled\'

.... but in the opinion of (probably) many other people - who do more reading of posts than making them - Kim did exactly the right thing. I'll second the posting of Steve above.

There are plenty of other sailing fora, but they are not very well patronised because this one is just so damn good.

Technically it's fast and stable. Politically, the moderation is incredibly light-handed for a board owned and paid for by a huge media conglomerate like IPC.

If you really feel it's all too much then there's BYM or BM. BYM has a certain following because there's a lot of old cronies who like to talk nonsense to each other - but it owes its existence historically,as I understand it, to a glitch with this board. BM's forum does not see a lot of traffic - and I suspect is unlikely to become a serious contender so long as Kim & Co keep such a steady hand on the helm of this one.

Honestly, there's nothing I'd like better than to jump on the 'Big Brother capitalist IPC fascists' bandwagon and have a good rant, but I just can't because it would seem that there are some good guys in among the IPC machinery.

[Although I did think asking Nigel to remove his pic was a bit heavy handed (IMHO of course)]
