I'm having intermittent trouble with Email both sending and receiving, (sometimes it works, sometimes it doesn't) and wondered if any other users suffered the same problem. The various Newsgroups (Landrover - Photoshop etc.) also only connect during the AM period.
The helpline is useless and I am thinking of changing to TalkTalk. Any advice gratefully received.

If you're going to change....if you need your connectivity for business and you need excellent support, take a look at http://idnet.net/ . If it's for consumer use, then TalkTalk is as good as any other...All the big providers struggle with their customer support as they are all on a tight budget to make money!

The TalkTalk consumer package, including the phone calls, broadband and line rental is a very good deal though. Look at the "option 3" package.

Me too, well not true two problems both sorted out in quick time.

I'm using homecall but don't use their email (i have my own domain) sometimes it kicks out but for only a couple of seconds but thats down to my domain as my other email accounts are fine.

I've not had any problems today, most issues are due to my laptop and IE taking 99 % of the cpu.

Cheers

I've used Pipex for the last 4 years - no problems (ok 2, one of my own making when my router blew up and the second was BT swapping our lines with our neighbour ...)... Occasional outages - but very infrequent ...

I use these addresses:
pop.dsl.pipex.com
smtp.dsl.pipex.com (with SMTP authentication so I can send whilst connected to any ISP)

I was on Solo500 - no limit download, just moved to the Midi package to include all geographic phone calls and faster broadband - it is still settling down atm ...

I had my partners' parents on Pipex and they used to be brilliant, but I got the impression when dealing with them, especially recently that their recent expansion is more than they can cope with.

Their billing systems recently went down but they decided against telling their customers for 6 months and just landing them with the bill...

When people called to sort it out, they got through to call centre staff who blamed the customer and were confrontational and poorly trained in negotiations /forums/images/graemlins/wink.gif

I would recommend switching to a local loop unbundled line for broadband if you can, as the service is both faster and liable to being more reliable.

I am with Be* and they are great, although not the cheapest ISP I haven't had a single problem in 8 months, and whenever I have called them for help with setting up and the likes, they have been helpful and not charged too much at all for the support.

Be were on my very short list when looking for a new ISP for janet, (after the Orange debacle).

Chose Zen in the end because their 2GB per month service only limits downloads and uploads are unlimited - which was important as I use Slingbox to watch TV on the boat.

Not had a hiccup in 9 months, so havent had to use their customer service, but there is loads of service info on the website, (including a graph of phone calls to customer service, and details of any service problems).
