It's nearer 75nm from Languard. Last year we left Shotley at 0200 and got there about 1500 - 1600. Mind you we motored nearly all the way as the was no wind until Westhinder so keeping up speed was not an issue. Personally I would rather arrive in daylight - there are people around to grab lines.
We (out of habit now - as much as neccessity) tend to leave about 02h00, which would see you into oostende by 6:00pm... in daylight....
If you leave from Harwich for example at 02h00, by the time you've cleared Cork Sands YB, and are heading off towards LSH, then you have the first hints of dawn, and by the time you get into open water its well and truly light......
Plus.... first light at sea is one of the things that must be seen at least once or twice a season to be truly appreciated in its wonder and beauty!
We usually try to meet up before departure, or at the very least coordinate departure times, but given the range of boat sizes and designs, its a rather futile exercise to sail alongside one another.... we just tend to remain in VHF contact as we cross... and inevitably boats of similar performance end up near one another....
last year a few met up in Shotley beforehand, but only becuase a number of boats were coming from farther afield.... the year before in SYH.... otherwise we'll probably just rendezvous around CSYB around 03h00!
I am happy to defer to the experts on this route but...
My passage planning software gives a passage time of 13h41 for TOD of 19:00/29 (friday) and a passage time 16h00m for TOD of 02:00/30 (early sat). This kind of passage time difference would usually be enough to persuade me to the shorter one.
If you really want to arrive in light(ish) condx you might want to slip your TOD back to 04:00 and take a duration of 14h58m. If the sofware is right one of the extra two hours in bed will be free, coming off your passage time.
Based on Landguard to Oostende pier head via Cork Sand Bn, Long Sand, West Hinder then some wiggling. Just shy of 75MN over ground.

I wrote the passage planning software and they took my programmers license off me ages ago for silliness. It has had no formal, and not much informal, testing. If anyone has a real one they may want to check. I would be interested to know the comparison.
We often go via West Hinder just because I like it!...... where else could you get such a wierd structure out in the middle of nowhere?.... /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif
