Osney Bridge headroom

Re

"Yeah, that's getting very close to as far as you can get in even a small cruiser, up around Inglesham."

We got a 60' narrowboat within about fifty feet of Hannington Bridge, about 5 miles above Lechlade.

No, about 2000-2002. It was a 60' narrowboat called Ernest, and there were multiple photo's on the TuesdayNightClub website which Neil the owner has now taken down. We mounted a chainsaw on the front and had to cut a lot of vegetation.

There are multiple chicanes now that would require you removing the odd half tree. My boat easily floats in 2' of water, I hit bottom twice.

In addition to that, after a number of storms and floods some branches are now on the river bed, sometimes sticking up at sharp angles. Have a look with some polarizing sunglasses. At least it was like that a few years ago. Not trying to put people off because it's great fun to see how far up one can get - but I used to worry about those sunken branches meeting my plastic hull.
