Can anyone please give me a little advice?

What is the best state of tide to depart Levington for the Sea? Is there any particular pilotage, that I should be aware of?

My passage (Sailing) plan is to take me from Levington up to Northumberland and ANY notes, or guidance would be most appreciated.

- Plan your departure to catch the tide as soon as it turns N at Landguard. SYH->Landguard approx 4NM.
- If you're unfamiliar with the waters, it's a good idea to stick to the 'yacht track' when you're navigating Felixtowe Harbour (keep the red cans just to port).
- Listen out on VHF71, so you have an idea what the big boys are up to.

Nothing more to it - enjoy the trip.

Thanks guys. My pilotage follows the Yacht Track out, south side of the Harwich Channel, then crosses the channel to head North.

I take it I need to catch the Ebb from Languard Point, to make the best time up the coast. I am thinking of doing this in 'one hit' so as long as there are no other considerations, I suppose tidal streams are going to be a little irrelevant?

you can save time & nip around Landguard, between Landguard Pt & the bouyed Ch but dont go too far inshore once round Lg. this will save a mile or 2

+1, but also watch out as you're crossing the Stour channel (near the moored lightships) for ferries or other traffic either coming down the Stour from your right, or heading up from the sea towards you but intending to turn to port into the Stour.

Good plan. You'll be heading the tide at Lowestoft, plan to stay close inshore coz it rips down past Scroby wind farm, hug the coast past G Yarmouth & Hemsby? (watch out for pots), then sandbank and platform dodging all the way.

We found Cromer was extremely bad for pot buoys, worst we've ever seen. We just moved from Shotley back to The Wash for a while and found by passing Cromer about 5 miles offshore, we didn't see a single pot buoy.

We timed it so we passed Landguard about an hour before HW. Last hour of tide against us, but not too fast, bit of slack water, then we had the tide behind us the rest of the way. We stopped overnight at Lowestoft and left 5:20 the following morning to catch the ebb tide. If you're doing all 250 nm in one hit, tidal streams aren't much of a factor though.
