I read that 90% of people who jump from the Golden Gate Bridge die but 90% of the survivors reported that they had changed their mind on the way down. Alarming thought.

The majority of those who kill themselves are suffering from a mental illness at the time that they take/attempt to take their life. More often than not, they are suffering from depression.

It's not funny. A friend of mine is one of the 40. I was almost the 41st. Believe me, it really isn't funny.

A local mental hospital was built in the shadow of the railway viaduct in Durham. Needless to say, the temptation was too great for many. The hospital closed a couple of years ago, and suicides from the bridge went with it. Quite sad how many lives were lost from there over the decades.
