Orkney Islands next?

.........

I assume all went well with Navigator, anything else planned for the rest of the season? .......

Thanks all !!

All went well, overall, with only one minor issues after re-build of SB Engine... A small cooling water leak at the top flange on the water cooled exhaust manifold... Left it for the vacation as it was controllable and steady at a short 1 liter per hour run (on a 30 L system that is manageable), so simply topped up... Now two bolts loosened and discovered that seal had a split in it. Made up new one and all is well.

Port engine has developed a small oil leak around the governor (suspect cover over the idle screw which is a right pig to get to on that engine). Lost 5 Litres during the run up & down into the bilges, which was a pain to clean out over the WE... Now first clean done and I'll try to re-seat cover next WE... annoyingly just two bolts again... just getting to them takes some effort and long socket extensions, unless I dismantle throttle cable brackets .... which I may do to ensure the job is done properly.... and I also have a sticky injector on that engine which I'll replace over winter... once identified that is..

No firm cruising plans as daughter put in offer on first flat which has been accepted, so can see some of my spare time going in there and not out boating... Guess that's life and just a period we're going through... :)

Yes indeed, life goes on. It sounds like your daughter will be living close-ish if you will be spending time renovating the flat, which will be nice for swmbo and yourself.

Btw, loved the photo of the Puffin in the water, fantastic looking creature, quite a comical appearance :)

Funny you should mention that, C.
I also found that pic lovely, the first time I looked at the thread, and thought to ask about the subject, but forgot it while posting my previous comment.
Puffin, I just googled for it. Are they around also in Tas? Can't remember to have seen any.

There are not, afaik, in Oz, I have only seen them in the UK on a road trip around the coast that Alf has just cruised. Without looking them up, also they are around North Wales (Puffin Island), Kwacka territory, so no doubt plenty of other UK locations.
They look quite exotic, something you might expect to see in a South American rain forest.

Great report and superb pics! Would love to get up to Scotland at some point with the boat.

We soemtimes run with one engine (gearboxes don't need pressure to lubricate) but I tend to alternate every half hour due to (possibly unfounded) concerns about the first set of cutlass bearings getting too warm (they are lubrictad by a raw water feed from the engine). I have found that putting one trim tab down (same side as the running engine) takes about 5-7 degrees off the counter helm required to keep her in a straight line. We also have a small skeg keel which helps :)

Puffins are northern hemisphere, so if you see one in the southern oceans it would be a long way from home :)
Our version of penguins, but smaller, and fewer varieties. Great pic though, and a fantastic post rom Alf. Good to hear his successful rebuild. Bound to be some adjustments and hassles given the extent of the rebuild. Great job Alf!
