Hi I have owned an Orkney Fastliner for three years and have never been sure about a raised metal bung in the floor positioned inconveniently by the helming seat on the port side The bung has a threaded cap screwed down on to a threaded spigot projecting approx. 30mm above the floor. Other than being a bit of a nuisance position wise it hadn’t bothered me until recently when water started seeping in from it when on the pontoon. I have tried tightening it and may have cross threaded it so it now leaks continuously.

My question - does anyone know the purpose of this ‘bung’?. The boat also has a small sump midships with a plastic butterfly valve which doesn’t turn but maybe allows water into the bilge?. It also has a bilge access plate at the stern just in front of the battery and fuel tank from which I pump out the bilge regularly.
Maybe I can do away with the metal bung?
Help please.

Maybe a quick call to Orkney boats will answer your question?

Doesn't sound like it's a standard fitting. We've had a Coastliner 14, Day Angler 21 and Day Angler 23 and the only thing similar was on the 14 - there was a bung much like the one on the transom to let the water out when back on a trailer, but down the centreline and allowed water out of a kind of void in the hull. This was around 2ft forward of the transom just where the fuel locker hatch closed.

I don't think it's that but thanks. The leak is manageable as its so slight, just a weep really but it's a nuisance and strange that it continues after I've pumped out the bilge

It couldn't be a through hull for an old fish finder or suchlike perhaps?
Thanks for the suggestion. It's in the right location for that i.e. by the console but right where I stand - you wouldn't expect it to be fitted just there. Through Hull makes sense unfortunately with the constant weep!
