I have had look at past threads but they do not seem to help.
Q1 Where can I buy spares?
Q2 Where can I buy meths or preferably d natured alchol? I remember someone in the past giving a link to a woodfinishing site that used meths for frenchpolishing!
Most photos (of new cookers) show a sort of defuser in the center of the burner, my stove (never used by me) doesnt have them. Are they a neccessary requirement or is this an adition in later models.

Hi Heras_Master,

Just ordered one of these stoves for my Daughters boat. I had one (The 6000 with the oven) on my last boat and loved it. I have always used Meths, I let it down with 10% fresh water, this helps to reduce the build up of wax on the bottom of the pans but as a down side the flame is not quite as hot. I kept a small bottle (one of thoses Ally drinks bottles) next to the stove full of 100% meths to give a little more heat when needed (rarly) or to assist in lighting on very cold days.

My Wife hated the smell of the Meths but I could never smell any thing odd.
The diffuser can be removed and all still works fine, so I guess that it is not a specific requirment.
Parts can be ordered from any Chandlers with an account at EC Smith, nearly every Chandler in the country, I use Shamrock Quay Chandlers (www.shamrock.co.uk), no connection.

These stoves are quite expensive, but are very safe and are also of stainless steel construction.

Hope that this helps

We have had an Origo for 10 years and think its great.

force 4 chandlers do spares for them.

Meths has got dearer(hasnt everything )lately. We usually pay about £2 for a half liter that will last a weekend .

At the moment were using alcol a bruler 90% bought in France for €1.50 for a full liter.rip off britain again /forums/images/graemlins/mad.gif

Our cooker doesnt have the diffusers either. Doesnt seem to matter. What is worth having is the sealer caps for the burners as these stop the meths evaporating away when the boats not bein g used.

A pleasure.
Just be sure to specify clear IMS, otherwise they will give you stinky purple stuff. They fill the can while you wait, so not entirely obvious from the label.
BTW, denatured meths is the purple variety.

We put an Origo in the last two boats and generally love it. The smell of meths as a real off-put so we bought about 25 liters on a trip to France and it's lasted 2 years. When it runs out in a few months we'll go the woodworking route - thanks for the tip. It is markedly slower to boil pans of water but only on cold winter days, rest of the time you'd hardly notice the difference. I mostly love the safety aspects and the stove looks a treat, we have the one that sits almost flush with the galley top and has a chopping board. We also now have a nice large extra cockpit locker to fill up with stuff! BTW, the central defuser makes the water boil faster because the heat is spread out.

I have one on my Anderson 22; the two burner version. Would have prefered the small Taylors but didn't have the room. Now find it to be a perfect solution; so simple can't think you'll need any spares. I buy my meths at local builders merchants in 2.5L tins, seems reasonable cost.

If you don't have the pan retainers they are a pretty essential extra as pans can slide around very easily

I havn't got the burner seals/caps..are they obtainable seperately as well..ditto the diffusers?

I purchased a motor boat which had a 15 year old origo. A 2 burner version. Dealers/reps here in Australia, were worse than useless. I "googled" & then dealt directly with the manufacturer in Sweden (?). They were able to supply diffusers, pot stand/griddle & pot holders. The latter now come as 2 seperate units one for each pot/burner, and needed a little bit of amendment due to the style of the benchtop, whereas the original came as a single unit with 2 sets of holders, on a single "rail". Price to me in Australia, posted via airmail, was cheaper than if I'd been able to buy it here. Peter.

Thanks everyone for your input. I have been away on Hera for a fiew days and dont think internet connection on a Folkboat is a device I realy need. Thanks again.
