With all due respect to our Suffolk Romantics - the Danish lighthouse looks a lot more interesting than the, rather bog-standard, British offering.

That’s a younger, very « bog standard » Danish or German or Dutch lighthouse.

Orfordness is much more interesting and has rather a distinguished history:

The charity which runs the lighthouse has over £50K in reserves, but only spent about £2K on defending it in their last published accounts (2018). Maybe time for them to dig deeper in the donation bucket?

I suspect £50K would not even pay for the Environmental Studies required by NT/EA before any permissions to carryout saving works would be given.

There is a demolition company down there now carving out roadways around the tower.
Maybe this is what they are spending the £50K on.

Thanks. I guess if it's going to fall into the sea then they might as well salvage some of it with a controlled demolition. I'm now very much wishing I'd taken the time to visit it by land as opposed to merely sailing past it at short range.

I commented on the reports on Facebook and got info sent from the people who lease the demolition equipment.
