It's 25 years since I've sailed up the river, and I'm planning a return to Aldeburgh later this week, variables permitting.

I have no engine, and my vague plan is to go in on the last of the flood and drop the hook behind Havergate. Then take the next tide up river. Long keel, 4ft draft.

Thoughts please? :)

If you go in an hour or two before HW at Orford Haven then you will have plenty of flood to take you up to Aldeburgh and beyond if you so wish. HW at Slaughden Quay is about 1.5 hours after the Haven, so it's a bit like having a time machine!

The depth at Abrahams Bosum is around 8M you can also anchor at top of Island, near Cuckolds Point near Lady Florence trip-boat mooring.
You can anchor off Martello tower at Slaughden/Aldeburgh or pick up a visitors mooring which should be strong enough for your vessel.
Contact Upsons yard for availability.
Anchor also between Westrow Point and Brick Dock, marked as Island Reach on my chart.
Also at Iken, off the 'Cliff' between a couple of private moorings.
