Sorry if this has been covered before, Just ordered a rev counter from the States as in the UK I have been quoted £250, got one online from the US for under a hundred bucks delivered, even if I have to pay duty on it, it seems a shed load cheaper. I would love to buy from and support a UK based buisness but the maths speak for themeselves. Now just got to hope it turns up!

ordered loads of parts from the u.s
get better service then you do in th u.k
just started looking for a new fishfinder might even get that from over their.

I have got many a part from the US only hassles are long lead times and any warranty issues can be a pain and prove expensive.

Yep. I've started buying stock Merc parts for my engines/drives from a Merc dealer in Michegan. Fortunately I have colleagues who regularly cross the pond and courier for me. Cost about 50% of UK prices.

Yes, I completely agree! Merc parts - through the official dealer network - here in the UK are a crazy price, compared with the USA. When I restored the Settimo Velo I bought lots in from the States, including a matched pair of V6 engines - which were just impossible to find here - and numerous other parts. However I did go to http://www.asap-supplies.com/marine to buy my rev counters and other gauges.

Things can take a little longer and UPS have a policy of calling 3 times before they send an item back, which can cause some stress! I'm prepared to put up with that for the enormous savings rather than pay the additional overheads, profit and VAT to the UK dealer network.

Ermm... Hang on, the VAT wouldn't have gone to the dealer anyway.
And you should have paid it also when importing the parts on your own.
If you didn't, I'm sure HMR&C would be interested to know how... :o

Have bought mostly s/h stuff from states.Normally takes about three weeks surface and do not forget to add import tax and then vat on the whole thing inc the shipping costs.
You will normally pay this when you collect stuff from agent.
Last time for me was was some outdrive rams.Shipping was around $60.00

Got the customs bill today from parcelforce, £23. Paid online, parcel due to be delivered tomorrow, about a couple of weeks then from ordering to delivery and a saving of more than £150, seems well worth it to me, especially if you plan maintenance and dont need the bits yesterday.

As a matter of interest what % does £23 represent on full value?

thanks

Mike
