I think it just sums the ineptitude and lack of care from sail makers. I've yet to meet anybody who pleased with service and sail quality - normally one but not the other!

You have now.... on our last boat, I found Rob Kemp at Kemp Sails to be extremely helpful in choosing our sails, his man came to be boat on an appalling wet day to put the sails on (with his girlfriend 'voluntarily' helping him out) so we able to sail the next weekend, and the sails themselves were excellent.

Not all perfect though. Crusader failed to deliver my stackpack. When I rang the order seemed to have got lost, although I had paid a hefty deposit. Promised for January, but didn't turn up, then February, no show. In the end we told them a date we were coming to pick it up. I think they finished it that morning. Certainley a rush job as the lazyjacks were put on backwards!! Not all sailmakers are immune from cock ups!! Conceed that they do make a lovely sail mind you!!

as its my post originally, I will offer this.

Crusader have consistently, over 6 major transactions, been economical, helpful, on time, no screw ups, met all my wants, and have just delivered my gennaker furler - exactly on the day they said they would, with some additional Lewmar blocks fitted for me to try a rigging method for the furling we discussed on the phone. If it works, I phone them and they bill me for them, if it dont work, put them in an envelope and send them back for nought.
Cant argue with that.

Sorry FullCircle, it's poss' obvious, but you are not confirming in the last posting if it is Crusader who are at fault with your last order, even though in the past you were happy with the last 6 transactions you had with them,

A couple of friends have also used Crusader and they are both extremely happy customers.

But then there are some excellent lofts.

We’d ordered a heap of new sails from our loft, including a new Cruising Chute. When delivered, we found 2 Chutes. So I called the boss.

"Mark, maaate! We seem to have an extra Cruising Chute!”

“No mate, we screwed up and ordered too much material for yours, so thought you’d like a different sail for your mizzen. No charge.”

Took a while to work out to how best fly the thing (toe-rail and mizzen boom), but it certainly works and Hinewai looks stunning from on deck with the two up. Must get someone to take a photo one day from another boat.

Well, they phoned me at 4pm today and the sails are to be delivered this evening to my marina.
I will have a little look on Saturday after doing the chores, and then will report back.

So they have made good on the second promise, which is a blessed relief.

I bought our cruising chute from Crusader and very pleased with it too. Would use them again.

I've dealt with Kemp over the last 6 years and purchased 7 sails, some spray dodgers and various other bits and can say that they have always been very efficient and helpful.

We tore the No.1 genoa on the spreader in August so sailed into Poole where they are based. I rang them and a very helpful chap dropped by, collected the sail, had it repaired and delivered back the next day all for £78.00. It's a pentex laminate which tore 2' along the leach and about 18" into the sail; it was really neat repair, they also made a few repairs to some other areas.

I'd highly recommend them.

They are still good now
Kemp cleaned them for me last winter
Very good sevice
Would highly recommend them
