orange/yellow light on Bavaria 42 panel

On my Jeanneau everything is well labelled, and as the Bavaria panel only appears to have symbols on it I would expect there to be a manual with explanations. I wonder if that light indicates that an inverter is switched on.

P.S. there is a Bav 42 Manual on the internet, but it is for a US boat with a different panel.

I have a similar light on my Bavaria 34. In 10 years I have never seen it on, but have always imagined it to be a low voltage indicator. I hasten to say, this is only a guess.

Thanks - its not that - its on when the batteries are fully charged. I havent seen it on for the 1st nine years of the boats life. The manual doesnt help.

The manual we have on board describes a panel 26 where as the installed one is panel 20.

Could you point me to the online manual?

The legend looks like a low battery, have you concidered that it has developed a fault ?

It is now not working, and that is why you have not seen it for 9 years.

Any chance of a better photo , a close up and taken with flash perhaps, so that we can see the symbol.

It is in such a prominent position I'd think it is something considered to be important.

Agree, Vic, it's in a prominent place so ought to be important. Looks as if it's some sort of battery-related symbol.

I have lost the link to the manual, but it would not be any good, as it showed a completely different layout. By the look of the symbol it is battery related, and as it is on when the batteries are fully charged it may be showing that the charging voltage is too high (overcharging) or it may be showing excessive battery temperature if there is a sensor fitted. Do you have a voltmeter to check actual charge voltage? If it is over 14.4 volts suspect that it is an overvoltage warning, turn off the charger and see if the light goes out when voltage falls. A fully charged battery will normally drop its voltage back well below 14 volts very quickly once the charger is switched off.

As an aside if it is a warning light rather than just an indicator that something is turned on, it is a bit odd that it is amber rather than red.

Yes that's what I thought and it is why I was interested in possibly seeing a better picture.

as well as looking similar to the battery symbols beside the voltmeter selector switch it looks as though it could be indicating the level of something.

Anything as clever as battery electrolyte level ???
