OpenCPN on Android can no longer browse to SD card where the charts are!

I have had tge issue Where the the right folder is setup but opencpn wouldnt recognise the charts .I Found I had to delete the chart folder uninstall opencpn , reinstall the recopy the cm93 relevant areas on to internal and then use tge spanner to direct opencpn to the charts again . Which starts wverthing working again including tge tides and currents.

Details of how tge charts are stored and regions latitude and longitude , if you only want to install a region . Are on this thread.

Funnily enough on my Vista laptop I uninstalled OpenCPN 4.6.0 last night and went back to 4.4.0 as I found that the new version was so slow, especially when dealing with AIS data, that it was unusable. Version 4.4.0 seems to be fine.

It seems that on this boating holiday I'm spending more time sorting out OpenCPN issues, although I also found time to do a delivery trip for a friend today and went up the mast on my own boat. :)

...... but, as I have proven time and time again, with my supreme technical skills (see post #11) I can sort out absolutely any problem, any where, on any thing. :encouragement:

Did you ask on the Opencpn forum? There were a couple of slow machines on there istr, the developers very much like any feedback of bugs so they can get rid of them quickly.

Might be worth considering dual boot with linux so you have something solid and reliable if your machine is an important bit of nav kit rather than relying on that awful vista

I looked at new laptops a few months ago as this Vista one will be 10 years old this year. It's not a money thing as I have the Admiral's permission (repeated everytime I shout something like "this laptop is so slow that it's doing my head in") but I've been with Vista so long now that we have a sort of thing going and I can't bear to leave it. :(

As far as navigation etc is concerned, the tablet and Navionics (see new thread) is my chartplotter backup so OpenCPN is really only a toy becuase the laptop has to be plugged into the mains almost continuously as the battery (I think it's on its third) is shot. :ambivalence:

I know, I know .... I'm beyond hope!

Just upgraded to 4.6.1 on a win 10 not that old machine and it seems fine, getting up to 180FPS with really fast panning.

Embrace the future

4.6.1 deffo worthwhile, mine updated itself a while ago running on a 10 year old 32 bit laptop. After 4.4 there have been issues with, amongst other things, OpenGL support - even on newish machines (running Windows)
