I agree! The latest version has quite a lot of usability improvements including settable chart scales and proper zooming. It also introduces managed plug-ins that hitherto have been a bit of a minefield.

(y) Updating plugins to latest version is simple now
And accepts signalk data , makes life easier for those enlightened enough to be running signalk :)
The AIS realtime prediction looks like it could be handy for class B where it can easily be a minute or 90sec if you miss a transmission.
Scaleable soundings is nice.
The incredibly useful mbtiles display is better.

All round a nice update.

I have openplotter installed on a raspberry pi running on a 7inc screen, it’s great and fun to build. In the process of adding IMU sensors for heading roll etc. The charts on open CPN are fantastic and all at a fraction of the cost of some systems on the market.
The options to integrate systems are expending all the time. Well worth the time and investment.

Thanks for the heads up. I just use it in the saloon with old charts for rough passage planning. I could use it as a backup as it connects to AIS, a GPS dongle, Google Earth and displays GRIB data. Excellent piece of software and I'll download the next version.
I prefer sat images as Mbtiles from sasplanet instead of google earth, various sources so you can pick the best imagery and get navioncs/cmap as well. So useful cruising.

After many attempts i have opencpn and charts on my laptop. Just started to investigate but already delighted how easy it was to hook up to my B&G. I was expecting issues as this is N2K only but seems to have a WiFi 0183 talker too, including AIS.

Now I want to start playing with Raspberry pi. What should I go for? Is 2gb sufficient or should I get 4gb? I assume that these are not upgradable.

I'm now using an Rpi4 4GB with finned metal case. CPU temp shows 42c with ambient air of 28/29c. Lives in a drawer by the helm with a small pc 12v fan for through airflow. I use a 64GB SanDisk Extreme SD card. Great thing is if you plug in a second SD reader you can use the built in Rpi Copy SD function to make backups. I use a dongle for my Oesenc charts so they are hardware independent.

Using OpenPlotter v2 with Ocpn 5.0.0

OP2 really is the easy way to do it as GHA has said before. Looking forward to Ocpn 5.2. Going to wait for the official release.

It's pretty intuitive to use & very stable. Very happy as it's such a low cost setup.

Very much thanks to the OP2 & Ocpn devs.
