Opencpn for Android production release

Did you point it to the chart dir in TWO places as per my post #20 ?

Yes, but it already pointed to the location I'd entered via the "wrench" icon route. I had a similar issue once with TomTom on a HUDL and had to modify some of the install files. It was a naming thing and the SD Card pathname didn't match the one expected by the app. It was fine once that was fixed.

I'm installing on a HUDL2 and will need to do some digging but too many other things in hand so it will need to wait. Thanks anyway.

I notice that a dropdown menu appears briefly on the top line next to OpenCPN icon. It shows Raster, Vector and CM93. It vanishes pretty quickly but I have managed to change the setting. No effect though.

My version always starts up with that dropdown menu showing "raster" so I sometimes change it to "CM93". It doesn't seem to do anything and that menu is not there in the Windows version. Does anyone know what it is for?

Regarding charts, I have this up and running with the CM93 chartset from 2012 (and Antares charts). Should I continue looking for a more recent version of CM93 or is that the best that it 'out there'?

What's the oldest version of Android that this will work on?

I have another old redundant phone, a Samsung GT-I9000

When I try and run the install, it says "Parse error. there is a problem parsing the package"

I assume that's a cryptic way of telling me the phones old version 2.6.29 of Android is too old?

It does look like it can be upgraded but it doesn't look an easy procedure.

I have one of them, running 2.3. I didn't think there was anything much later available ... there was a Cyanogen Mod install at one time but I don't think they support such ancient hardware any more. Where did you get 2.6, by the way?

Here's what my phone says:

Firmware version: 2.1 update!
Baseband version I9000NEJGI
Kernel version 2.6.29 root@SE-S603 #z
Build number Eclair.NEJG3

So what version of Android would you say that was, and should it run this version of Open CPN?

That's Android 2.1, "Eclair" - the menu that displays this is clearer in newer versions of Android.

OpenCPN requires Android 3.0 or higher.

I couldn't get it via the 'free' link so downloaded from playstore which cost $9.99 but it kept telling me I was 500 miles away. I uninstalled it and got credit, as I had no time to play then but may still try again later. I have it on my boat and home laptops anyway so it is not essential other than as backup to a backup to a backup..
