I already have a directory of charts that I use with Tsunamis 99 which has served me well. However I wish to display AIS information which Tsunamis cannot do so I have downloaded the latest opencpm programme. Having read through the instructions I selected the chart directory which contains the cm 93 charts but it only loaded the low scale charts, ie no detail, and I havnt been able to make it look at the bigger scale charts which i know are there. Anyone have any idea how I can solve this problem?

Also I have seen cm93 charts on torrent, but you have to join the site to get a downoad...any way around this?

You may have cm93 ver3 charts that OpenCPN cannot use - it's only compatible with ver2. Although of dubious copyright, these are available in various places on the internet - try a search. I can't give you a link because of forum rules!

Sorry if you already know this.
If you right click on the screen anywhere you should bring up the CM93 detail slider , this allows you to change the level of detail you see on the chart.
This can also be useful because a high level of detail slows everything down a lot.
You can reduce the level of detail, find the right place on the chart and then increase it again.

You also need to enable your 'vector charts' settings as follows:

Make sure that in 'chart display filters' all boxes are checked.
And that 'show important text only' is NOT checked.

Also make sure 'Show ENC text' is selected, that's the A+ button, otherwise no place names will show:

I'm also having the same issue, and have tried the above advice about the Vector Charts tab, however the Chart Display Filters box is empty!

Some comments that may or may not be relevant.

Tsunamis charts need an unlock code entered to be able to use them with Tsunamis so if those are to be used with OpenCPN maybe that is why they are 'invisible' to it, because it has no way of allocating the code?

If you have CM93/2 charts they are useable by OpenCPN but when downloaded are zipped. All you have to do with OpenCPN is point it at the directory which holds the CM93/2 charts, but only after these have first been unzipped into the same folder. Winzip doesn't do this, you need a (free) program called IZArc found herehttp://www.izarc.org/

If you want to simply test OpenCPN with vector charts you could download some of the USA free from NOAA in the USA here http://www.charts.noaa.gov/?Disclaimer=noaa%21nos@ocs%23mcd&Submit=Proceed+to+Chart+Downloader These are not zipped or if they are winzip works. Sadly you can only get the USA charts free from here.

CM93/2 worldwide charts Jan 2010 vintage are out there to find and torrent download for those that look hard enough.:)
