Open cpn AIS

Ok starting with IAIS
If I go I got connection for my wifi it say address is 191.168.1.11

If I try and connect using that address is wont ( see photo .

Laika says above that he has contacted DY who have confirmed that the iAIS server will definitely be set to, by default TCP 192.168.1.1 following the firmware update. Unless you have changed the default (and there will probably be a "reset configuration" button if you want to reset it back to be sure) then it will be inevitable that the sole wifi device which can connect to iAIS must be connecting to 192.168.1.1

Addresses such as 192.168.1.11 must be the addresses allocated to the connected client possibly through a DHCP server built into the iAIS if there is one.

Either way, when your tablet or PC, or whatever is connected to the iAIS unit using it's SSID name, the TCP address you need to enter into the OpenCPN connections page will definitely be 192.168.1.1 port 2000 (or 192.168.001.001) and not the TCP address of the tablet or PC which is running OpenCPN.

I hope this helps a tiny bit.

Actually that was from the manual, not what DY told me directly but you'll notice from Vic's ipad network settings that it seems to be getting a dhcp address of 191.168.1.11 so everything points to the server genuinely being set to 191.168.1.1. Unlike 192.168.1.0/24 which is private non-routable address space, 191.168.1.0/24 is routable address space allocated to a Brazilian mobile phone company: Even though the iAIS doesn't actual route anything anywhere so *practically* it doesn't matter I doubt DY would have changed a dodgy IP setting for a different dodgy IP setting then got the manual wrong.

Vic: when you re-flashed the firmware, were you asked to enter an address for the server?

Question , why do you think it won't connect to the same address as the address in the wifi setting box ? I guess this is why I was having a problem getting it to work as I was using the wifi address setting .
As RichardS says, the address you need is that of the iAIS unit (.1) not your own tablet (.11)

Question , if I have say laptop tablet and IPad working at the same time do you think it be best to have them all set to UDP or by having the iPad set to TPC that there be a conflict? or

That's what I was trying to get out of DY: If you connect with TCP does it stop the UDP broadcasts. DY support will tell you that if you want to use multiple clients you should set them all to udp but I was just curious about how dodgy the software really was :-/

So to get it all working just set it all to udp port 2000. We know that that *should* work

You're right Laika ..... I'm so used to using 192 for private networks that I just saw 192! As you say, it can't be 191, surely?

Vic .... if you want to try TCP rather than UDP I would do as I suggested above and do a "reset configuration" on your iAIS which should get you back to 192.168.1.1 :)

Laika , Richard , Robbie and everyone else who given input to this thanks ,
I understand UDP /TCP a bit better now .
I seen to have everything working on UDP , although at times not all the ships are showing on the tablet which are showing on the iPad and laptop , although they are listed in the AIS list on the tablet ,
another thing I can't understand but any way at less it's working ,
all this just for my co skipper as she like using it in conjunction with radar at night , personal I prefer radar at less it picks everything and not just vessels with AIS .
Although if at anytime the radar crash , it better then nothing as far as aids goes .

So again thanks guys .

Yes, 192.168.1.1 is Default Gateway for most of them and it Works perfectly !! :)
