Gus from the RYA says in his interview that the organisers of this event have received prior clearance from Belgium customs that visiting boats will not be checked for red diesel. Chink in armour - how can the Belgiums justify a stance that says it is not allowed but give selected events a blind eye. Such patchy application of the law would receive short shrift in English courts - these foreigners have no high regard for the law but make it up to suit themselves.:(

What exactly is your problem?

Can't help thinking that all the huffing and puffing about this makes it worse. Which person thought it a good idea to formally request the Belgian embassy to declare its stance?

By making a big issue out of this we increase the chances of getting dipped. I'm sure the folks in Oostende don't want to scare off Brits but if we make it a big enough issue they'll be forced by their own authorities to check all boats...

I had moules and frites in Cafe Rouge the other day - mind you I got there using white diesel :D Risk free.

It ain't risk free going to our local Cafe Rouge, it's right next door to the outdoor clothing shop, I can't resist a poke around and buy something :o

Belgium is off the list, love the country and the people but the threat of being fined makes it no go. And Guapa, you mention by-laws for the Olympics - they are laws passed by the legitimate authority or cabinet minister, not a group of officials deciding to turn a blind eye and disobey their national laws for a particular weekend and publicising the fact.

They're not - only RYA Gus mentions it.
Hence now my

PS: It may just be a devious ploy to lure naive Brits in.
Once they show up, it'll be like shooting fish in a barrel. ;)

Those fish would be red herrings? I'm confused, should that be followed by a ;) or a  ? Which one is suitable for a red diesel post?

Ain't going back until UK has changed all its marina diesel to the other stuff....

I've settled for a cheeky Rose' .

At least that was the colour when changing my filters this week.

This is after 18 months of only virgin white . Pity that I also appear to have a dose of the bug.

I mentioned this to a marine mechanic who suggested that I report to a certain Whitechapel Clinic and obtain a number.

I settled for a massive dose of Marine 16.

Drifting away from Belgium's flexible implementation of rules and the correct type of emoticon to use....

Any more forumites likely to go?

We are contemplating it, shall I say*. Our boat's on the small side (23ft) so we'd probably be setting off earlier than most to get there.

*It would be tempting fate to say we're actually planning to go, as The Curse of LittleSister would then kick in - it has so far derailed every attempt over several years to make it to an ECF event!
