I am thinking about visiting Ostende that weekend en route to Holland, although I have visited Ostende many times, I have not been there during that weekend. I think its 28th May to 31 st May 2015

Can anyone please give me some advice as to if you need to pre book berths together with any other info which could be useful

Many Thanks.

If you're not planning to partake of the voor anker festival I'd steer clear of Oostende that weekend - fairly busy harbour, and montgomerydok (don't know about RYCO). Perhaps Nieuwport if you're coming from the South or Breskens if you're heading into Holland might be better on that weekend - normally Oostende is the best stopover (personal choice)

Thanks for the tip Peter. Yes the move went OK thanks but after 35 years in the same house it was a bit daunting. New place is great, 5 mins walk to boat, shops, station and pub. What more do you need?

Entry is way better.
For one, berthing is free. Goodies upon arrival.
Drinky-doos for skipper & crew. Town hall reception.

No brainer really. If you're eligible to enter, you should. IMHO, of course.

Gracias, sounds like a plan! I shall consult with the Admiral. We'll have to get our skates on passport wise though

Its a great event, the town centre locked marina is, I believe reserved for the event, the only spot we could find was the one right up at the end, north sea yacht club?, maybe best to book .

The RNSYC does NOT take bookings, just pitch-up

Would be great if they did, ostende does get really busy during the festival and after a 15 hour sail its nice to know you can definitely tie up somewhere, sure you are correct though, we havnt failed to find a berth in the 8 years we have been going to there. There are some great boats there and its just as well we don't take part as ours has seen better days, very much loved and treated well, but needs a coachroof and cockpit paint, we tend to sneak in and out under the cover of darkness...tee hee

i first took my own boat in there in 1978 & only missed a few yrs since. never ever been turned away

Only thing that would put me off entering if I could, and that's the apparent complete lack of privacy. I'm not keen on hundreds of people scrutinising my old boat, which was what I saw last time I went as a visitor. I'm proud of her, but there are bits I'd want to spruce up lots before going under the gaze of all those people
