Brilliant. You want to remount the Tillerpilot further outboard though, as it has limited range pulling the tiller to starboard. Maybe mount it further aft so the angle changes a bit.

Also, get a wooden boathook, it will serve as a whisker pole.....

Keep on trucking....

Peter flipper though the same, but it's bang on dead center for range. It goes as much to starboard as it does to port. I think moving it back a bit might be an idea though. I was thinking about that today. I'll get more swing of the rudder for every inch of ram movement.
I am gong to try to contact simrad about it, since I cannot go any further until it's sorted. It's too risky not being able to leave the helm... the videos i shot today show why i think. I was goose winging, it lost control. Then i dropped the main and was on a very broad reach under furled genoa. The tiller was light, but it still lost it.

I'm going to speak to simrad tomorrow and also rig up a gybe preventer.

N, its unlikely you will get a decent resolution on dead downwind with the TP.

The TP does not need to be bang center like you have it. With it disconnected, extend it as far as possible. Measure the length. Now contract it as far as possible. measure the length. Halve the difference in the measurements and set the TP to that. Now connect it to the tiller, but free of the coaming. Swing the outboard end until you reach a suitable location on the coaming for the mounting. Bingo.
With your weight of boat/tiller force, it wont matter much about the tiller to pilot angle, even though acute angle geometry will increase the forces required to push/pull the tiller.

The gybe preventer is a good idea however.

Got a nine foot light weight boom that might serve as a whisker pole as it might be easier to secure at both ends, let me know if any use and I'll get it to you

Great stuff Nathe. Got your message about the Deben bar /forums/images/graemlins/blush.gif /forums/images/graemlins/blush.gif /forums/images/graemlins/blush.gif /forums/images/graemlins/blush.gif /forums/images/graemlins/blush.gif
Good you survived it though /forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif Take it easy and be safe.

You are getting me in a lot of trouble with SWMBO. I am now spending most evenings watching your videos and the keep turning left videos - which are also fantastic.

Do you find the current draw on the TP significant??
