Ok east coasters, specially you adventurous types who went to Oostende : what route from Harwich, what about the tss and in particular the sunk separation? All advice welcomed for first crossing as skipper.
And the reason I will probably go from Harwich is because my Raymarine radar has packed up just when I need it....any recommendations for best repair people? I'm thinking it will be up that way rather than Mersea?
Thanks!

Keep a parallel track just out of the Rough Sands channel to Sunk separation, then out past Long Sand and down to the Knock and cross the 2 TSSes West Hinder and straight in alongside the shipping track again.

Out of Harwich.... pick a route either side of Cork Sands, via Cork Sands Yacht Beacon or Medusa/Stone Bank, and then Long Sand Head.... next waypoint is West Hinder, and then straight into Oostende unless its blowing a hoolie, in which case, head via MBN to avoid the sandbanks off the Belgian coast.... along the way you will need to jink a little to maintain the rigth angle course across both bits of the TSS that you'll cross..... other than that, not much to worry about really....

The Sunk seperation isn't a big issue.... we usually just pretty much ignore it.... accepting that we do keep an eye on which way to expect traffic from.... but every time we've been through it, there has hardly been a vessel in sight other than the usual few anchored.....

Jim aren't they in Maldon, or a different branch ?

Lond Sand Hds steer 125 deg true, use the tides to your advantage.
nxt stop Oostende
use the compass rose of A.C 1406 as a waypoinf to plot your cross track & make position plotting easy.
if you sail more than 74 mls from Languard By you have gonre the wrong way /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

This is what we do. Sunk? Keep a good look out and go right through it.

Have never seen a ship there on the SW arm. We went through yesterday as described above (at an angle en route for Long Sand Head). We turned down the Swin to make for the Spitway and two big b---ers came down headed for Black Deep.
