I've just remembered another Robert anecdote.
Before the Euro, we arrived late afternoon from Vlissingen. Robert directed us to a berth and said that he would be over to collect the fee, because we would have "gone away" by morning.
We had Guilders but no Belgian Francs. In my best practiced Flemish I said
"Ik heb geen geld"
In a very loud voice he replied
"Oh marvellous, finally an Englander who speaks Vlaamse and he has got no f****ing money".
