Somehow, I have ended up putting a deposit on a new (to me) boat. I'm not sure I meant to, but it happened. Now I just have to find the money...

As a sidenote, would most people have a survey done on a 2003 boat with 70hours ? (have inspected fairly thoroughly myself, but I'm not a surveyor). I'm thinking that the answer would be "probably".

Looks like its that time of year - what with Meddreamer moving up as well. Will she fit in your berth dv?

She looks lovely and clean, and a survey will not cover the mechanicals and electricals. That said, spending that sort of money another few hundred pounds on a survey would be sendible, if only for your peace of mind and ultimate sanity!

David Greening is a good chap and he's based in Chichester. did the survey on my previous boat and is very thorough.

Congratulations - see you on the water (does this mean you'll be putting in some winter hours on the new toy?)

Looks fabbo but you know the old saying, act in haste, repent at your leisure. Best get a survey done. You just never know

okay okay okay, I'll organise a survey, just in case it is actually 2 hurricane damaged S24's glued together...

Hi,

She's not mine yet ! Still the slight matter of several tens of thousands of pounds that need to be found: it could all go wrong tomorrow.

Yes, you're right, I will get a survey organised, just in case. Thanks for the recommendation.

I'm not sure about the berth: Tim said he would slot me in somewhere if the corner berth was too tight. It might be okay with a canoe as a neighbour.

The plan is not to run her this season: I'm too tied up with work anyway(mostly in the wrong country), and there's electrics to be fitted (vhf, gps). Also, they've agreed to "defer" the start of the 3month warranty until next Apr/May/June, so long as she remains laid up until then.

I'd have a survey for peace of mind, but I wouldn't expect to find much wrong.

Signwriting looks a bit dodgy though! /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

Good luck with it.

She looks absolutely lovely! However, tempting though it may be to trust it's condition, I would still recommend a survey. Paul Homer did my S37 purchased recently, and was VERY thorough, and it was reassuring to know he found no "significant" (to use surveyor speak) faults. He's the MBM surveyor, and a Sealine expert, so it may well be worth calling him.

Even if all is OK, as I'm sure it will be, it's still nice to get a number of bound pages telling you exactly that!!

Good luck, and remember, you can't take it with you!!

I would also suggest getting a marine engineer to check her engines over, with 70 hours the odds are that their is nothing wrong with them............... but you never know - and although the Engineer is not Clairvoyant and can't ever say an engine is 100%, it should give peace of mind that the previous owner did not do anything dumb, like not putting in antifreeze or something similiarly easy and cheap to correct now, but potentially expensive later on.

Have fun!

Best answer to this is that when I traded my 2 year old boat against a new one, the Broom dealer paid for a full survey. If they do it on a boat they knew really well then I think you have your answer!

And you changed her name already /forums/images/graemlins/confused.gif

i guess you are buying her in the east midlands /forums/images/graemlins/wink.gif
so the boat is probably a late 2003 which was in stock with them for a while and has probably not been used that much. Takes a long time to get to the sea from that marina, so the hours have probably done a fair bit of time at slow speeds. if she was a local boat of course /forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif
im sure if you ask they will tell you

enjoy her.
it might have been my boat had i not found out the S29 was coming out /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

Right on all counts, except that the name change is a Paint Shop Pro name change: the ceremony (including an offering to Neptune) will have to wait until I actually find enough money to pay for it. Hopefully, only a few weeks.
