Hello, how is everyone! Steve sends his love.

We're off down to Gosport tomorrow to order a nice new shiny Bavaria 38, we were going to wait until the boatshow but we've been told by the nice man that if we order in August we can get 5% off (Very nice man!) OK so we get home today and we've received a glossy from Opal....guess what? The price which is advertised in the YM pullout they sent us as being £62,863 has now gone up to £68,855 even with 5% off it's still conciderably more than we initially thought let alone with the discount. Can anyone advise as Steve has gone nuts with the extras again and I want a hot tub for the garden!

P.S. Steve wanted you all to know he's just done a 14 hr night sail from Torquay to Guernsey, got stuck in the Alderney race for 4 hours on his way into Alderney and sailed back to Torquay in just under 13 hours in a twenty foot swell (Exageration maybe??).....and he got sunburnt ears!

xxx

Try a private message to Nicho - he bought one at the thin end of the year. I suspect you've fallen foul of the £/euro exchange rate which has gone the Euros way over the last year or so. I know Opal had done some buying ahead of currency, but I guess therir cheap euros have all run out.

I think you should test how much of a 'nice man' the salesman is. I was sorely tempted by the report in YM, and was close to buying one myself for sub-£62k plus extras.

If you do go ahead, I would be interested to know how you get on.

Moody made a decision last year to stop making them, when we were told this by one of the sales guys we made a valiant attempt to buy one of their last three (even though we weren't ready for it...twelve months too early really!).

Steve's over enthusiasm was not always well received on here although I hasten to add in the whole he loved it on scuttlebutts and made many friends but some of the less friendly comments not only served to reveal Steve's unhealthy obsession with the desire to seek bloody retribution also to a degree brought us to our senses and we shelved the idea until a time when we knew we would be in a better position to make an informed decision and be able to draw on a little of our own experience.

Shame though it is a lovely boat!

I never had a problem with Steve, never saw the final straw either, so to speak. But a lifetime ban? It must have been a doozy! But never mind, you can post for him!! Have you considered a newish second hand boat? Normally have all the expensive extras already onboard. Just a thought.

We've concidered it, just wanted our first time to be special ;-). We've also realised that our first doesn't have to be our last and in Steve's defence all the extras on the Moody where in the vain attempt that it would be our first and only.....now reality has kicked in!

You DO surprise me. Have you tried aversion therapy to cure this obsession?
Nigel Charlesworth runs intensive simplicity sailing courses for four students a time on his Contessa 26. Even THINK of hot and cold running water, laptops, Play Stations, satellite communications, plasma screen TV's, powered winches - I can't remember the rest of the wish list - and a rogue wave will drench you! They're turning it into a reality TV show.
