(Only) After sailing, diesel will not start. Take a mechanic sailing?

You don't have a + Ve Cut Off switch to use to Isolate the Start Battery - So do you have Voltage Sensitive Relay relay to control charge to the Start battery It would open the connection to the Start Battery when the engine is not running ? I wonder if this is no longer working and your Start battery is still connected and delivering power to you navigation electronics etc while sailing , thus flattening the start battery ?

+1 for shorting across the solenoid terminals.
I've only had this happen once (preparing to enter a tricky harbour) but a large mole wrench across the terminals immediately started the engine. A wiring cleanup ensued and all was OK.
Good luck
Bob
Which 2 terminals?

Just an update, in case someone else needs this thread.

After cleaning the DAHL fuel water separator/filter with great care (there was tiny little gunk in the yellow part, the "depressurizer"), the problem has been solved. It was a fuel issue. Strange, it looks like heeling may have been shifting the gunk and clogging the filter.

Thank you all for the suggestions!

Thank you so much for taking the time to update the thread with the solution :)

This certainly does not ring true. How would a fuel blockage cause an electrical fault? Your original post says you turn the ignition on and nothing happens???? Maybe your negative connection is made through the fuel?

Well, I am just describing my experience - more than providing a professional solution. You are right - the whole thing is weird and now it is solved. I did think it was electric, but (really now) I did all I could...checked everything, all was fine!

So, despite the fact it seemed to be electric-related, I presume that it was not. Well, I certainly hope not! Or, I will be back on this thread soon!
