Their "chichester" forecast (not specifically sailing) was for even nicer weather:F4.

Morning Andy
It's a tad breezier than that here on the south coast this morn. 34 knots registered and still rising I fear!
Stay scuttling today I think!

What sea areas were these forecasts for? Pretty rough down here in the far SW. Did you see the freighter limping in to Torbay on last night's TV? And that was after the crew had shot much of the deck cargo over the wall to relieve the list.

They raced on the Tamar yesterday afternoon like it was a summer's day.

I\'m off accross the Channel today!

Taking the Midday ferry from Portsmouth to Cherbourg - Looks like it will be fun.

SWMBO says she does'nt want to go! forecast I seen says that it will increase - Chichester bar says its steady 45 gusting 60 now!

I have given up using Onlineweather for 3 months now as they have been so far out.

They are forecasting F5 for my patch where inshore waters ( Wash to N. Foreland) are forecasting 9,10, and 11.

Sandettie Buoy is currently showing 51.1 knots.

While the Met office forecasts ...

... foresaw this lot in plenty of time. It was fairly quiet yesterday afternoon, but at Dover the Port Control have just reported 67 knots. The Dover Straights outside fits the description of "sea completely white with driving spray".

Odd, because the UK Met Office has beeb predicting very strong winds for the past three days or so. Some forecast output by WeatherOnline is automatically generated straight from computer models without any human intervention or quality control. I have not looked at what you were using.

The Met Office at 0500 Inshore waters forecast was
Selsey Bill to Lyme Regis.

24 hour forecast:
Wind: southwest veering west to northwest severe gale 9 perhaps storm 10 for a time easing west 6.

Computer modelling is not yet good enough to be issued without some modification or vetting first.

For more background on forecasts, problems with, how to use etc etc see www.franksingleton.clara.net

Onlineweather seems to be underestimating their forecasts.I now do not bother with them, the charts from frank singletons site give much better idea of whats going on and the metcheck site seems to be quite good as well.

Think we should re name them offlineweather.com

"The Med has got me" (no not the Medway the other Med)

Pick your forecast

Use several sources. This site has already documented (several times) that sources differ. Some prove accurate. Today the Met Office were closer then most...

D'ya've a gd weekend?
We're through the worst of it now.....Oh!Gybe Ohhhhh..!
