I am trying to sell my boat myself by creating a web site and also a pdf document which can be downloaded from a unique url. Any good sites?

Does anyone have any experience of on line file sharing and if so what precautions are advised to limit/prevent scams?

I sold my boat using a free weebly site. www.weebly.com put the boat make as part of the site name and you get to the top of the search engines pretty fast - mine was hardy36.weebly.com

You don't need a file sharing site - that's for things like music and videos. You embed the pdf in the web site and people download from there

I sold my old boat myself in 6 weeks I advertised it on ebay and the yacht market then I linked a website to the ads which I designed myself completely free of charge using a site called www.moonfruit.com

All it cost me was a classified add on ebay £15 and buying the domain name for 12 months £12.50 plus the yacht market advert

here is a link to the site I designed http://www.sealines37.com/

I must say at this point that ALL the enquiries I had came through ebay I did not get a single one through the yacht market though

Thanks to Stuart and Lanerboy, as well a those kind people who PM'm me, I now have managed to create a web site to try and sell my Pelican 32.

This forum is the best for friendly and helpful people.... thanks again.

Regarding your specific Q about pdf files for download:

Copy the file to your homepage domain and simply type the domain name (+root folder if any), the add a slash / and the pdf file name (case sensitive) like this example

http://www.spidybot.com/xAQ145A_280.pdf

Works with other file types as well (pics, sounds etc.) Of course the downloading pc must have adequate software to open or execute the downloaded file

Thanks for your suggestion. I have now managed to embed pdf file on my web page. When I say "I" I actually mean my daughter who is far more savvy than me.
