Hi friends,

Does anybody have any experience undertaking an online diesel mechanic course? Something covering the basics plus some repair and troubleshooting aspects. Any specific company recommendations?

TIA & fair winds.

I've got a DVD that was given away in pbo magazine a few years ago. It was produced by SureStart and covered the basics quite well. I think RYA do a diesel course as well.

There's an RYA diesel course, which covers all the basics. It's offered by most RYA schools. It's designed to allow you to troubleshoot and hopefully fix most of the common causes of diesels ceasing to work! It is focussed on "how to get moving again if the engine stops at sea". But it does seem that the course varies a lot in its quality - it might be worth asking for recommendations. Mine was taught by an engineer who was also a good teacher and was excellent; it gave us the confidence to tackle quite major disassembly of our engine.

Thanks for the reply, I’ve seen the RYA one, it’s only 6 Hours and is $250. I might be wrong but I find that very expensive. Might be a last option choice.
