One step foward ...........

Popped to the boat this morning with good intentions of getting a few jobs done but after spending a chilly hr or so sorting a leaky chain plate I thought I may aswell adjourn to the cabin , knowing I had fitted new gas hoses & regulator it might be a good idea to test the cooker and the propex heater

Well the cooker lit up ok - tick that off
Then I tried the heater , mmmmmm won't ignite , checked switches against instructions , yep that's ok , so I go to have a look in the locker where unit is fitted , all seems well , then ahh ha I spot a isolator in the gas line ! , turns it on and tries again , yes I can hear combustion and see vapours from exhaust outlet , went back to cabin to check for warm air and after a while it did start to come through .

I then started on another job , after 10 mins or so I looked up from what I was doing to find whole boat filled with smoke !!
I didn't smell a thing .... Turned off heating and opened fore hatch to vent the boat but now this leaves me with the question of why I had a boat full of smoke ? , being gas powered there is not much to go wrong like a erberspacher .

Any one got a idea ??

The heating hasn't been used for at least 4 yrs !!

Does it have a hot exhaust....?

Our heaters exhaust was resting against the fuel filler hose... And then it started to melt/burn and the fumes/smoke were sucked into the cabin.

A distressing event!

If you didn't smell anything, are you sure it was smoke and not steam?

No not steam , apart from exhaust on startup for 5 mins ,there were other odours such as paint glue etc so these might of overpowered the smell , I have a plan tho , I have a electronic carbon monoxide detector at home so next time I will take that to boat and sit it on the floor of cabin and see what happens , if there are combustion fumes in the warm air I reckon this may indicate that the burner chamber has rusted thru into heat exchanger bit if you know what I mean .

I only wanted to see how noisy it was because of the other thread hereabouts
