One piece Mercruiser Manifolds

I tried a search which turned up very little but somewhere in the distant past I recall problems with one piece exhaust manifolds & risers.
As I have just bought a boat with these installed I wondered if any one can recall what the problems were & if I need to get them replaced ASAP.
It is a 4.3LX built in 1996, original manifolds which by now I know need replacement.

Don't know about any problems specific to the one-piece design (as opposed to the problems afflicting any exhaust riser), but I guess you could probably fit VP two-piece exhausts as the base engine (and hence exhaust port layout), is the same....?
