ONE NIL RAGGIES

This is true folks. One of our Dragons is racing downwind last w/end, its a bit on the breezy side and our man is only just got control. When a motorboat (Stinkpot) slowly overtakes him a bit close. Wind suddenly gusts and sends our man into uncontrolable broach, heading in general direction of stinkpot. Instead of stinky turning away his turns towards our man. Result Dragon "T" bones stinky amidships and rams bows through hull taking fridge and most of the galley with them, stinkies wife has a fit and thinks the Russians are to blame. She appears on deck, realises whats happened and throws some really salty language at our man. We get them back to our club pontoon and take wife and owner up for a well deserved cup of tea laced with as much rum as we dare put in it. Insurance details are exchanged and we send them on their way, ever-so-slightly wobbly with a note to go and see them at their club a) to say sorry and b) to try to talk to the club members about how sometimes sailing boats do suddenly go out of control and that it might be better if they give a little more sea room when passing.

Your man wasn't a 6'10" giant with the initials OP, I don't suppose. Used to race against him at Burnham Week. Always wondered why he didn't unbalance the boat. Lovely guy though.)

Should we have stickers on the back ?

Like baby on board or in our case ' Potential wide load when gusty'

p.s. saw a good one recently in the back of an old codger's car the other day :-

' Traffice Wardens are nice people - back in five minutes ! '
