Well there were jet Skis all over the place huge gin palaces making wash that would sink god knows what and some silly sod of a Harbour master picked on me in my 4.5 m rib doing about 15 knots in Poole Harbour in the main channel. His attitude was terrible so I simple looked the other way and ignored the idiot.

Given they have so few real powers he certainly thought he was Special.

There are huge signs that say 6 knots. Did you think they don't apply to you? Do you think you are "Special"? He does have the power to prosecute you.

Not correct as found out by a neighbour of mine on the pontoon, when he was caught speeding in holes bay. Got a big fine from PHC

Sorry no excuse, if you ever been restricted on a river you know the mearing if a speed limit and adhere to it. There is a designated jet ski area in Poole harbour which may give the wrong impression I guess.

So hands up all those who have commented that have never exceeded the speed limit in their boat.

And I say again the HM powers are very limited and more so as he has no legal way of knowing who you are if you are in an unmarked boat

What you have not said is the gin Palace were speeding , so that leaves you doing over twice the speed limit , now if that was on a road you would be banned for a year . Now go back to the room and face the wall.

most of the vessels including the Gin Palace around me were speeding

Are you so special that you have never broken a speed limit in your boat.

Perhaps you would explain how he could prosecute me. He has no powers of arrest cannot compell me to give my name and the boat has no name or registration so how would that work. He would need a Police Officer and there were none.

had he just told me to slow down all would have been fine he simply Had a bad attitude

He will ask for police or other assistance from partner organisations.
see 53

Harbours, Docks and Piers Clauses Act 1847.

Test him next time and tell us how you got on ignoring him .

Now I have waded in that qualifies me to put my hand up .Pretty careful on behaving right at sea which includes obeying speed limits .

Just because others do it don’t make it right.
I been paddle boarding today and someone passed me on the river in a small 3ppl tender and the wake was pretty big for such a small boat.
Speed limits are there for a reason, what makes you so special you can ignore them?

So if I read this right the OP was doing 15 knots in a 10 knot limit and the Harbormaster had the temerity to address the issue. The OP thinks that it is okay to ignore the HM because he didn’t like his attitude and the perceived absence of powers available to the HM somehow provides additional justification for this approach. Have I got this right?

He would have to be quick. 2 weeks ago the AA requested the police for me for a situation and they never turned up
