As I get older, the wind always seems to be in the wrong direction, and tacking gets less fun.
So I am looking at a powerboat.
I like the looks of the Nelson 42 Mk II, but I have a few questions;
Is anyone still doing new builds?
What sort of fuel burn am I looking at with modern engines?
If no one is doing new builds is it possible to buy an existing hull and do a complete refurb, or is that quite uneconomic?
Any thing else anyone thinks I need to know about the boats.
Thanks

This might be an option

Would be worth checking out a Broom 42/425/450 too. Lots of 42’s for sale at the moment. A big Atlantic 42 or 444 might be an option too.

that would take some time, do you want a project or a boat you can use ?

recon the majority on this forum try to buy something that is 'usable' straight away

To buy something like this new would make even Elon Musk flinch and suspect build time would test his patience as well.
The demise of Broom suggests the market for beautifully and solidly built boats but with interiors resembling the interior of Nelsons "Victory" has all but gone ?
As for modern engines and fuel economy...that hull....bit like pushing a brick through water ?

It is also worth considering that most Dales, Nelsons and Aquastars have no canopy over the back deck. So unless the weather is very good, you’ll be driving inside. The Brooms and Atlantics have a covered back deck area with sections that can be opened. The Broom pram hood is a great option for being able to open the back deck up on a nice days. Great entertaining and living space on the back deck too.

Hardy are a good bet but then I am biased!

There are a couple of Hardy Commodore 42s on the market - similar age but at very different ends of the asking price spectrum but a lot of work done on the more expensive one Yachtworld
