LS is not a big fan of the 3126!

I wish the guys who did the nice strong bottom end had not been driven into trying to accommodate such bulky injectors, leading to three valve head and so little meat making engine sensitive to overheating.

Industrial Tier 4 final Cat C7 now has good head and common rail fuel system, MUEI and HUEI all gone.

Now, this is getting interesting indeed.
With many thanks to LS - any improvement that can be made with 20 quids worth of garden center parts surely deserves some attention! :D
Would you think it's feasible to make something similar on the 3116? Here's a pic of the thing, just for reference.

MM, strangely that looks very similar to my 3126's, except mine are white. You have a lot more room in front and above yours though, and the cooling system on mine is a little more involved, meaning I can't remove the impellor from the water pump without taking the pump off. Dreadful design for both the pump and the installation. I can also only find positions for 10 pencil anodes, but the pack comes with 12. I think the exhaust elbow is the culprit.

Agree with LS!... my system wasn't fully developed re gravity, my excuse is the there was no room above the engine.... anyway £20 pah!... 50p of heat shrink, bit of flexible conduit , open cell foam and 2 milk bottles.. OK cheap and cheerful but it worked

Interesting. Do you see any reason why I couldn't detach the crankcase breather hoses from the air intakes, close the holes and put them in puke bottles?
I'd like to stick to multigrade in principle, but I don't fancy the risk of getting the turbo and aftercooler clogged...

If you do that would you need to remap the ECU?

This funnel thing with the pipe is how MAN ( 2876 ) have tackled it .
It goes to the underwater exhaust box -so the gases exit there through there own orriface along with the bilge pumps and of course engine exhaust /water .

All the above exist through this inthe hull .when I first took the wife and started up she said " lots of bubbles are coming out at the side "
Quite a neat solution -the top of the boxes inside the engine room are above the W/L

At the rear 1/4 on the stern there are tell tale pipes where a small amount of water + gas exits -but majority is underwater l

So you can see no other " through the hull " holes -everything goes out underwater -clever eh ?

If I understood correctly your setup, I believe it's more correct to say that MAN actually didn't tackle the issue at all, and rather handed it off to the yard installation - and unsurprisingly, Amati tackled it very elegantly.
The Cat solution (at least with the 31xx - coming to think of it I can't remember the arrangement of other engines I've seen, like the C9/12/18/32) has the advantage of being "self contained", so to speak.
But the more I think about it, the less I like it, and I'd rather get rid of it with some sort of puke bottle solution, if at all possible...

Yes you are right it's the installer ( Amati ) that's tackled it .
It never really occurred to me but it's the same on the port side -no holes either above the the water line .
My previous Sunseeker looked like Al Copone had sprayed his machine gun on both sides 6 inches above the waterline -that many holes
Also I,ve found a really really clever bit of design ----- there are twin fuel fillers -port /starboard -(no not that -)but this when you over fill the spillage/blowback comes out at the side of the hull at the back of the air intake and runs off .NOT on the side decking .
On the Sunseeker it ran down the side decking aft all over the teak bathing flatform - prob is when you are in unfamiliar marina -i had difficulty gauging the flow rate - and if doing a long stint wanted to " top up " So that's one less hassle -
refeulling clean up
So now no mess to clean up -great
Sorry for the thread drift .
It will interested to see post 2004 in Ferretti world if they allowed Al Capone to spray the Itama sides with holes
Guess Owner occupier builders are more passionate about the product than corporate owners - listening to bean counters ?
