Timer - what I do ...
[ QUOTE ]
I was think about putting my battery on a timer... 1hr a day or so.
Is there any truth in the rumour that an ordinary battery charger will 'suck' charge back out of the battery if left connected?
I was told this years ago, but dont know if its just an ' old bodgers tale'
Regards Nick

I have a std charger fed via a mechanical timer on the 240V. The timer is set to 2 hrs a day for 5 days out of 7. This way the batterys always get a good charge each day for any drop in state ... I don't worry about leaving on float ... and I don't have a "high-output" charger that could boil the battery ....
In fact my bog std Halfords charger feeds via a maplins splitter (£7) to two batterys and they are in superb state of charge ... If was using the boat more - then the hrs timed would be increased or even timer taken out and charger used without. I do have Halfords Smart Auto Float Charger as well - that I used when boat was in use ... but it will not charge two batterys unless coupled in parellel.
