onan generator cutting out

after about 10 mins running a small red "pop-out" button pops out and engine cuts out,
i push the button back in but as soon as you try to re-start out it comes.
"check engine" is written just above this button.
she is well serviced, checked all the obvious, removed the thermostat just in case it was sticking but no difference.
any ideas anyone ?

Has it got a low oil cutout. Is the oil low or is the sensor faulty?

Finally there is a suggestion below that this breaker switch may indicate a low oil pressure. One work-round is to keep it pressed in until the unit builds up oil pressure. That does not address the real problem of why the oil pressure is low, though.
