Anyone see the bit on laser beacons in YM June issue? They look like a good idea, if a bit pricey at the moment. May be just as effective as a floodlight aimed at a distant ship's bridge?

Note to ed. I do think it was a bit of a cop out to say "Go to Google.com and enter 'Rescue Laser'.". I mean - if it was for the computer illiterati, it should have said "then press enter". But seriously, two minutes work to give the proper url...

Looks like an interesting application development to keep in mind. I like the picture in the manual with the arm outstretched towards the search plane and 2 fingers raised.

Maybe the future will put the boot on the other foot with radioed warnings such as "Klingon container vessel, this is sailing vessel Enterprise. Change your course immediately or we will blast you with our phasors".

Klingons on the starboard bow? Captain?

What about a rotating one atop the mast?

Makes you wonder what developments we can expect in the next decade.
Reminds me when I was checking speed from 3 1/2 Tohatsu driving 24 footer my crew shouted "She"ll take no more Cpn." (Scottish accent)
