**** on prop

went out in my nimbus the other day after not using for a month or so and she was smoking when under load and speed right down on what she normally puts out
so i though bottom needed cleaning....now im in the solent area so dont get massive probs with barnacles so got under her yesterday and found bottom not too bad just green slime but the prop was a right old state not barnacles but a sort of coral like concretion a bit like the limescale you get in the kettle but all bumpy tokk ages to scrape of as it was very hard indeed any one any ideas
 
Same creappp I get on my trim tabs - the only thing not antifouled... This year!
Sorry no idea what it is specifically, but it's only adheared to the what is bare metal (stainless) also growes on (my) Anodes, which is worth keeping an eye on but much easier to get off!

We're also solent based.

Edit: - Was it that stuff causing your smoking under load???

Yep, that stuff grows like mad on props. We didn't use our boat at all during July and this was the state of my props after just four weeks.

Underneath the weed I had the same things you describe; in fact I've had them every year I've been in Chichester. What was nice to see was that the outdrives treated with Trilux were virtually clear except for a little slime.

Yes, we were lifted in July and yet by the time we got down to Weymouth 2 weeks ago we had to get a diver down to clean the stern gear - massive amounts of tubeworm/limescale stuff. £50 later and we got 7 knots and 350 rpm back.

yes it solved the problem with smoking under load when i cleaned prop
 
Certainly looks like the tube worm. My son's boat's propeller in Chichester Marina became so encrusted that there was no propulsive power either ahead or astern until the accretion was scraped off. The growth all took place over a period of two months while the boat was unused.

Fortunately we don't suffer this in Dover !

We're based on the Hamble and didn't use the boat through June and July, loads and loads of growth on the s/s props and trim tabs - the a/foul on the hull was not too bad.

Before we went out during August, whilst the boat was still in the water, I trimmed the outdrive fully up and used the "dirtblaster" attachement on the pressure washer to clean as much as I could off the duo-props and trim tabs - all of which can be reached off the swim platform (our SeaRay has an inspection hatch in the swim platform above the props).

I managed to get enough of the grot off to allow us to get up onto the plane and then a half hour blast saw the speed and revs crawl back up to about 300rpm under max / clean props and hull and only 4 knots off top speed - so at least we could us the boat before a proper lift and scrub!
