On-line training

I need to do some training as I'm going from aeronautical to nautical so reckon I should start with the basics of navigation but there appears to be a plethora of different packages out there that appear to cover the RYA day skipper nav. syllabus.

Being 55 years of age and a former trainer, I would much rather interact with an instructor and classmates in a classroom environment as that is how I learn best, at least I can ask someone to explain if there is something I don't understand etc. The thought of paying £80-£90 for an interactive death by PowerPoint already puts me in a negative mindset but lock down seems a good time to do some learning.

If anyone can put my mind at ease and have some first hand experience of these training packages I'd be very grateful.

I am an Aviation guy and did my RYA day-skipper theory using an online company and I actually liked it. I had previously tried doing it at nightschool 2 hours a week but being a shift worker and never knowing when I could be travelling to fix a broken aircraft it did not work for me.
With the remote style learning I enjoyed being able to plan when I wanted to study and at what pace so as to fit in with my time off ?

I too come from an aviation background and used Navathome. Seemed quite good

Sorry it was about 15 years ago, it was a series of DVD’s and a A4 folder with exams questions for each module, I also bought a couple of books to assist with the studying

i come from a flying background too went straight to day skipper theory + vhf and then the plan was to do DS practical but with lockdowns that never happened so i did powerboat 2 just to get some handling experience.
didn't find day skipper particularly difficult apart from a having to learn all the bouy's and such and remembering that you have current not just wind drift.
I did it over the course of 5 weeks 1 day a week in a class room tbh you could probably do it in 2 days if you could find an instructor willing.
The training pack from the rya is pretty good and you can probably self learn a good 90% of it all tbh.

Looking forward to doing yacht master once these lockdowns ease up and we can get out again.
