Have to take the leg apart on my hitherto trusty engine and cannot split the bottom part. Has anyone done this? Got any advice or even better a pdf of the workshop manual?

The engine likely dates from the 90s.

The model number will tell you the year. You will need to know if it is before 1990 or 1990 onwards

Ignore the last letter look at the preceding two letters The letters of the word INTRODUCES will put numbers to those two letters I=1, N=2 ........etc...... E=9, S=0.

Or see here; http://shop.evinrude.com/media/document/ModelNumberReference.pdf

You will then be able to find a workshop manual that covers the engine at http://162.144.28.33/lib/library.html

Usually the drive shaft wont pull away from the crankshaft unless the splines have previously been greased

Thanks
I can get a 3 or 4mm gap along the divide between the leg and the lower gear case but it wont split any further. What I dont know is whether that is just stiction or if there is something else that should be undone first. In short just how much brute force can be used.

The engine is 1990 by the way.

Found the relevant bit I think. Looks like its either the shaft splines or water tube grommet or both thats holding the leg together. Ther really irritating bit is that I only want to access the water pump and its not necessary to split for that. But having sheared one of the bolts in my efforts so far, I now have no choice.
