can someone tell me what is the correct way for the arrow to point on the om636 thermostat i removed it without paying attention to the way the arrow was facing thanks

Should point towards the heat exchanger. Water comes up from engine, through heat exchange, etc.

Yes, through the dipstick hole. Over time the oil gets diluted with diesel. As you add new oil you'll find diesel is displaced which comes out below the pump. The Diesel is lighter so floats on the surface. I just used same as in gearboxes, Gator classic SAE30.

thank you, is there an oil level mark on the dipstick or is it a screw you loosen i am showing my ignorance sorry

There are different types, circled mine here. It's a mini dipstick that you pull out. If you overfill it, the excess diesel oil will just overflow underneath.
There is a facebook group called Aquafibre, Ocean, Moonraker 30 Boats. Twin OM636s were fitted as standard to these boats. Lots of helpful info in the group.
Westfied 4x4 are good for spare parts.
